Scheib Could Become First Austrian to Win Twice

Julia Scheib (AUT) celebrated her first World Cup victory in Sölden last year.

A second success would be a premiere: Six Austrian women have won in Sölden, none of them twice.

Third Consecutive Podium Possible

In 2024, Scheib finished third in Sölden, and in 2025 she won. If she makes it onto the podium again, she will be the second Austrian woman with three consecutive Sölden podium finishes.

So far, only Kathrin Zettel achieved this from 2008 to 2010. It would also be Scheib's tenth giant slalom podium.

Globe Winner Starts as the Hunted

Scheib won the giant slalom globe last season, becoming the first Austrian woman since Eva-Maria Brem in 2015/16.

Only Tina Maze (SLO) had surpassed eight podium finishes in a single season before her. A good omen: The Sölden winner also won the giant slalom globe three times in a row recently.

Shiffrin's Wait Exceeds 1,000 Days

Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) holds the record in women's giant slalom with 22 victories. However, her last win in the discipline was 1,031 days ago, in December 2023 in Lienz.

With a podium finish, she would reach 45 giant slalom podiums, tying her with Anita Wachter (AUT). Only Vreni Schneider (SUI) has more.

Comeback After 1,008 Days

Petra Vlhová (SVK) is scheduled to compete in a World Cup race in Sölden for the first time since her knee injury in January 2024 in Jasná. Marta Bassino (ITA) and Neja Dvornik (SLO) also return after injuries.

Austria Approaches 100

Austria's women currently have 98 World Cup victories in giant slalom. No nation has reached 100 yet. A win in Sölden would be number 99.
