In Shiffrin's Shadow: US Talent Ahead of World Cup Debut
At 17 years old, Katie Rowekamp is set for her World Cup debut in Sölden. The American is considered one of her country's greatest ski talents.
Starting Saturday, all eyes will once again be on the stars of the Alpine Ski World Cup.
Alongside Austria's hopeful Julia Scheib and Overall World Cup winner Mikaela Shiffrin, young talents will also compete on the big stage for the first time.
Debut at 17
Among them is the great future hope of the US ski team, Katie Rowekamp. At just 17 years old, the talent from the US state of Alaska will make her World Cup debut in Sölden.
"I've always hoped for a World Cup start in giant slalom. That's been my goal forever," the American told "Ski Racing Media".
Flat Sections as a Great Strength
Rowekamp particularly impressed in the Europa Cup, the Nor-Am Cup, and the South America Cup. Now, she joins ski greats like Mikaela Shiffrin, Paula Moltzan, and Nina O'Brien in the United States' World Cup team.
The 17-year-old aims to make up time in the race, especially in the flat sections.
Furthermore, sisters Mary and Elisabeth Bocock, two other young talents, will be at the start.
Whether one of these emerging skiers can follow in Shiffrin's footsteps in the future could already become apparent this coming winter.
The women's giant slalom in Sölden starts on Saturday at 10:00 AM.
