US Open 2026: Venus Williams Receives Wildcard
The former world number one will compete in the year's final Grand Slam tournament. Her sister Serena Williams could still receive a wildcard.
Former world-class tennis player Venus Williams will also compete at the US Open this year.
As announced by the organizers on Tuesday, the 46-year-old American will receive one of eight wildcards for the singles competition at the year's final Grand Slam tournament, which begins on August 30.
In addition to her, Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open champion, and five young players will also be granted wildcards.
Notably: One wildcard is still available. The participant has not yet been determined. The organizers may still be awaiting final confirmation from Serena Williams, who already caused a stir with a surprising comeback at Wimbledon. She last competed at Flushing Meadows in 2022, reaching the third round.
Monfils Receives Wildcard, Wawrinka's Fate Uncertain
In the men's draw, French fan favorite Gael Monfils, who is playing his final Grand Slam tournament in New York, and Australia's Alexei Popyrin will be granted wildcards.
Further wildcards will go to several Americans, including J.J. Wolf and Michael Zheng. The organizers also have one men's wildcard still open. This could potentially go to former champion Stan Wawrinka or Britain's Jack Draper, who is working on his recovery.
