Cincinnati: Williams Sisters narrowly miss out in doubles comeback
Despite a defeat, Serena Williams says: "It was really cool to be able to do that again."
In Serena and Venus Williams' doubles comeback in Cincinnati, the US legends almost secured a win, but in the end, the veterans narrowly lost in the third set.
The 44-year-old Serena and 46-year-old Venus Williams were close to victory, almost clinching it after trailing. Against Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns, they reached the match tie-break in the third set after scores of 2:6, 6:1, and lost 8:10.
A double fault by Venus Williams at 8:9 sealed the defeat in the stars' first doubles match since the US Open four years ago. A joint appearance this year at Wimbledon had been cancelled due to an injury to Serena.
"We shook off the rust in the middle of the match and started to feel it, and it was really fun. It was really cool to be able to do that again," said Serena Williams.
