Strong Start! Tagger Celebrates in US Open Doubles
The East Tyrolean, with her star partner from Italy, secures the hoped-for opening victory in New York.
ÖTV talent Lilli Tagger also has reason to celebrate in doubles!
The 18-year-old from East Tyrol, alongside Sara Errani, prevailed against the US duo of twin sisters Annika Penickova and Kristina Penickova with a 7:5, 7:6(3) score in their US Open doubles opener.
Tagger, with the six-time Grand Slam champion, secured a 1-0 set lead after two breaks in the first set. Even a service loss to momentarily level the score at 2-2 didn't faze the duo.
Subsequently, the ÖTV talent fought for a 4-3 lead in the second set with a break. However, a rebreak for the US opponents followed immediately. Ultimately, Tagger and Errani clinched the tie-break 7-3 and celebrated their advance to the second round.
