US Open: Men's number three eliminated
Felix Auger-Aliassime loses to Karen Khachanov in four sets - Taylor Fritz, Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek, however, secure expected victories.
For Felix Auger-Aliassime, the 2nd round of the US Open tennis tournament is already the end of the line.
The Canadian number three seed at the hardcourt Grand Slam tournament lost to Russian Karen Khachanov in the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Thursday with a score of 7:6(5), 3:6, 2:6, and 2:6.
Thus, a New York semi-finalist from 2021 and 2025 loses to the 2022 US Open semi-finalist. The main reason is the error-prone play of the 26-year-old world number four.
Fritz and Cobolli advance
Taylor Fritz, however, had less trouble: The American eliminated Italian Mattia Bellucci quickly in one hour and 38 minutes with 6:0, 6:1, and 6:1.
French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli (ITA) prevailed against Tristan Schoolkate (AUS) in four sets with 3:6, 6:3, 6:4, and 7:5.
In the women's draw, two top players secured expected victories: Naomi Osaka (JPN) defeated Czech Katerina Siniakova with 6:2, 5:7, and 6:1. Iga Swiatek (POL) had an easy match against Nadia Podoroska (ARG) and won with 6:3 and 6:2.
