Mensik too strong: Rodionov eliminated in second US Open round
Jurij Rodionov even takes a set from the world No. 18, but ultimately cannot overcome Jakub Mensik.
Jurij Rodionov has been eliminated from the US Open in the second round after a strong performance.
The world No. 143 in the ATP rankings took the second set against Jakub Mensik (CZE/ATP No. 18), but ultimately had to concede defeat with a 3:6, 6:3, 2:6, 3:6 scoreline.
Courageous Rodionov Performance
In the first set, the 27-year-old only conceded one game, but lost it 3:6. In the second set, Austria's number two played strongly, securing the break for a 4:2 lead and leveling the match at one set all.
After that, however, the Czech showed his class, breaking the ÖTV player twice and confidently claiming the third set 6:2.
Rodionov kept the fourth set close for a long time before he conceded the break for 5:3. Mensik then served out the match after approximately two and a half hours of play, securing the four-set victory.
