Lucas Miedler and Neil Oberleitner are in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 event in Tokyo.

The Austrian doubles pair wins against Alexander Blockx from Belgium and Alex Michelsen from the USA with 6:4 and 7:6 (5).

The player from Tulln and the player from Vienna announced only a few weeks ago that they would form a doubles team on the ATP Tour. Recently, the two also competed together in the Davis Cup and secured an important point against Belgium.

The perfect coordination still needed to be found initially in Tokyo, as Miedler and Oberleitner quickly fell behind 0:2. However, Blockx and Michelsen, who rarely compete in doubles, couldn't maintain the momentum and still lost the set 6:4.

With no breaks in the second set, a tie-break ensued. In it, Miedler and Oberleitner converted their first match point for a 7:5 victory.

In the quarterfinals, the duo will face the French doubles pair Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti.
