Beijing: Potapova forced to retire in all-Austrian clash with Kraus
This means Austria's number three is already in the third round in China.
Sinja Kraus is in the third main round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing!
The 24-year-old benefited in China from the retirement of her compatriot Anastasia Potapova with the score at 4-1. Kraus was already clearly in the lead with two double breaks before Potapova had to withdraw due to shoulder problems.
For Kraus, who won her first-round match against Australian Maya Joint 6:3, 3:6, 7:5, the journey continues. In the third round, Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (WTA-111.) awaits on Sunday.
By reaching the third round, the Austrian will improve her world ranking to at least 85th place. With another victory, she would advance to 74th place. Her previous career-high is 80th place.
