"Thrilling Showdown": Vikings Battle for Europe's Football Crown
In the "Golden Bowl" on Sunday in Duisburg, the Panthers Wroclaw from Poland await the Vienna Vikings.
On Sunday (kickoff at 3:30 PM), the Vienna Vikings and the Wrocław Panthers will face each other in the battle for the European crown in American football.
Following a dominant season and a resounding victory in the semi-finals, Head Coach Chris Calaycay's Viennese team are the favorites against the Panthers Wroclaw in the "Golden Bowl" in Duisburg.
However, it was none other than the Poles who inflicted the Vikings' only defeat in 13 season games so far, just a month ago in Vienna.
In Week 2, the Vikings still prevailed in Wrocław with a 42:23 score, before the Panthers struck back in Week 12 in Vienna with a 34:31 victory.
Vikings Head Coach Calaycay is looking forward to the final: "It will be an incredible duel."
Inaugural Season of the AFLE
The AFLE with eight teams and the European Football Alliance (EFA) with six teams are the two European football leagues that have replaced the insolvent European League of Football (ELF) this year.
In the EFA, Nordic Storm won the title, while the Raiders Tirol had missed the playoffs.
The game will be broadcast on ORF Sport +, among other channels.
