Meissnitzer supports Hirscher
Recently, it was reported that Marcel Hirscher could have his World Cup wildcard revoked. Support comes from a high-ranking FIS personality.
Will Marcel Hirscher be at the start of the 2026 Ski World Cup opener in Sölden (October 25)?
The 37-year-old Salzburger has not yet revealed when he plans to make his comeback.
This may also depend on whether Hirscher receives another World Cup wildcard next season, which guarantees him a bib number right after the top 30.

Will Meissnitzer Help?
Support from the FIS camp also comes from Alexandra Meissnitzer. The 1999 overall Ski World Cup winner recently became "Director of Strategy and Public Affairs" for the FIS.
Her tasks also include fundamentally modernizing winter sports. In an interview with the "Salzburger Nachrichten", she made it clear that her goal is to market male and female athletes even better.
Big names naturally help with this. And Marcel Hirscher is one of them. In the same interview, she therefore clearly advocates for a wildcard for the eight-time overall Ski World Cup winner.
Hirscher "Should Have the Privilege of a Wildcard"
"That Lindsey Vonn received a wildcard was a blessing for skiing. She inspired by being number one at 40 years old after many injuries. Naturally, I will also be happy if Marcel Hirscher races again," said Meissnitzer.
"He (Hirscher) has given so much to the sport as an exceptional athlete that he should now have the privilege of a wildcard," Meissnitzer stated.
Hirscher already used a wildcard during his 2024 comeback when he competed in three World Cup races in Sölden, Levi, and Gurgl, but shortly thereafter tore his ACL. Since then, he has been waiting to make a comeback.
