Overall Ski World Cup winner Marco Odermatt recently had to take several days off due to a "small muscle injury".

"While doing a squat, I felt a twinge," Odermatt explained to "Blick".

This also meant that the Swiss athlete could not fly to the training camp in South America with his teammates as planned. Odermatt was actually supposed to depart for Chile last Monday with the giant slalom team.

However, it now looks like he will be able to catch up soon. As "Blick" reports, Odermatt is expected to travel to Valle Nevado on Monday.

Odermatt doesn't want to overdo it immediately in Chile

The time spent in physiotherapy quickly showed results for the five-time overall World Cup winner.

"Patrick (editor's note: Amrhein, physiotherapist) really did a top job, I'm optimistic about the training camp in South America," Odermatt explained.

"But it's also clear to me that I have to take it a bit easy in the first few days in Chile; I can't push too hard too soon."

Coach sees Odermatt's break positively

His coach Helmut Krug believes that the short break might have done Odermatt good - even if the entire ski contingent is still in preparation: "Now his body has said 'start-stop' once. That's why I believe this forced break wasn't bad for Marco."
