Bitter! KAC loses to Fribourg due to a two-minute penalty
The Red Jackets are ahead for a long time against the Swiss top team, but a single Fribourg power play then proves fatal for Klagenfurt.
EC-KAC lost 1:3 at home to HC Fribourg-Gottéron on Matchday 2 of the Champions Hockey League.
After their overtime victory against Bordeaux two days ago, KAC initially showed a strong defensive performance, and in the middle period they were also successful offensively, with Raphael Herburger putting the hosts ahead (33.).
A fateful penalty
Fribourg subsequently increased the pressure, but initially the Carinthians were able to defend everything. However, Lukas Schwinger then received a two-minute penalty, and the Swiss ruthlessly capitalized on the special CHL rule, according to which this penalty must be served in any case.
Jonas Taibel with two goals (44th, 46th) and Jacob de la Rose (45th) turned the game in favour of the visitors in just one power play. After that, KAC could not fight back, suffering their first defeat in their second CHL game.
The "Red Jackets" will continue their campaign next Thursday against Storhamar Hamar from Norway (7:00 PM).
