Lilli Tagger definitively out of US Open
The 18-year-old from Tyrol and partner Sara Errani bow out in the second round of the doubles to the second-seeded duo.
Lilli Tagger's journey at the US Open 2026 has definitively come to an end.
After the 18-year-old from East Tyrol was defeated by Amanda Anisimova (USA/WTA-10.) in the second round of the singles competition last Thursday, she now also exits in the second round of the doubles tournament.
Alongside 39-year-old Sara Errani, herself a six-time Grand Slam women's doubles champion, she lost to Gabriela Dabrowski/Luisa Stefani (CAN/BRA) 2:6, 5:7 on Saturday (local time).
Defending Champion Too Strong
In the first set, two lost service games were too many for Tagger/Errani. In the second set, both duos initially managed two breaks each, but the third one for 7:5 then proved to be the breaking point for Tagger and Errani.
It was no easy task for Tagger, as Dabrowski/Stefani are seeded number two. Furthermore, Dabrowski is the defending doubles champion in New York.
By reaching the second round of the doubles, Tagger has at least equalled her best Grand Slam result. At the French Open 2026, she also made it to round two alongside Errani.
