Strong performance not enough: Suljovic's semi-final exit
Top seed Luke Humphries was too strong even for an in-form Mensur Suljovic.
Mensur Suljovic is eliminated in the semi-finals of the Swiss Darts Trophy.
The 54-year-old lost 4:7 to top seed Luke Humphries. Both players achieved an average of over 100 points. The fact that the outstanding Humphries (111.17 average) averaged almost eleven points more only became noticeable in the closing stages.
The best-of-13 match started optimally from the Viennese's perspective: he immediately broke the world number two, checking out with his second dart on double-8.
The second leg continued brilliantly: He took out 96 with two darts and confirmed his break. Humphries subsequently leveled and even turned the match around to 4:2. Although the Austrian averaged over 100 points in this phase, he couldn't match his opponent's strong darts.
Pressure Too Great
However, he broke Humphries on double-10 to make it 3:4. The Englishman managed the rebreak to take a 5:3 lead, but Suljovic stayed in contention and checked out on double-16 to reduce the deficit again.
After that, Humphries pulled away and secured the last two legs for a 7:4 victory. In the final, he will face Jonny Clayton.
