Spaniard continues incredible MotoGP streak in Silverstone

Raul Fernandez wins the MotoGP race in Silverstone!

The Trackhouse-Aprilia rider wins the British Grand Prix and secures his first season victory. He is also the twelfth different race winner at Silverstone in a row.

On his way to his second triumph in the premier class, the Spaniard benefited from several crashes and battles among his competitors.

Ogura Drops Points

Japan's Ai Ogura, who was second in the world championship standings before the race, crashed out unassisted on the tenth lap at turn seven and slid into the gravel. At that point, Fernandez's teammate was in seventh place.

Among others, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), Enea Bastianini (Tech3-KTM), Joan Mir (Honda), and Alex Rins (Yamaha) also retired. The only Brit in the field, Cal Crutchlow (LCR-Honda), also failed to finish his home race, dropping out early.

A major beneficiary of this result is Jorge Martin. The Aprilia rider started from pole position but had to let Fernandez take the lead right after the start.

Despite repeated attacks from his competitors, the 2024 world champion defended his second place and extended his lead in the world championship.

Bezzecchi Poised for Attack

Italy's Marco Bezzecchi finishes third, securing his seventh podium finish of the season.

Starting from fifth, the Italian fought his way to the front on the second factory Aprilia, securing a podium finish in the Grand Prix after also doing so in the Sprint, despite still showing visible signs of his heavy crashes before the summer break.

Alex Marquez (Gresini) finishes fourth, making him the best Ducati rider, just as in the Sprint. Pedro Acosta (KTM) takes fifth place, narrowly defending it against Fabio di Giannantonio (VR46-Ducati).

Reigning champion Marc Marquez only finished seventh, losing ground in the riders' championship and now standing 40 points behind Martin. However, he is only nine points behind the new championship runner-up, Bezzecchi.

The next stop for MotoGP is the Grand Prix of Aragon (August 30). From September 18 to 20, the motorcycle circus will visit Spielberg.
