Another Setback for Russell Ahead of Singapore Grand Prix
The technical retirement in Malaysia will have consequences for the upcoming race.
The run of bad luck for Mercedes driver George Russell seems endless.
In Malaysia, the Briton retired a few laps before the end due to an engine failure, stopping on track. The power unit of his Mercedes car must be replaced.

As a result, Russell receives a grid penalty and will have to start the Singapore Grand Prix from the back of the grid.
"That is particularly frustrating"
That an engine change would be necessary this season was certain. However, Mercedes' plan was to change the power unit only at the race in Austin, Texas, and incur the grid penalty there, as there are more overtaking opportunities than in Singapore.
"This is particularly frustrating given his performance last weekend and the result he would have deservedly fought for. Unfortunately, such things are part of the sport," says Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff ahead of the night race.
In the World Championship standings, Russell is in second place, already 84 points behind his teammate and leader Kimi Antonelli from Italy, seven Grands Prix before the planned finale in Abu Dhabi.
