Before the Race: Lawson Disqualified in Mexico
The New Zealander is removed from the classification after qualifying for the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix.
Liam Lawson had originally finished qualifying for the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix on Saturday in a strong eighth place - instead, he now has to start the race from the very back of the grid.
The New Zealander was disqualified from the classification after qualifying. The reason is a violation of Articles C5.12.6 and C5.12.7 of the regulations. These state the steps in which the engine's electrical power may be reduced.
Lawson's offense: He had not immediately lifted off the throttle after crossing the finish line in Q2. Although the Racing Bulls argued that this did not provide a performance advantage, the FIA's decision stands.
It is the next setback for Lawson. After a skirmish with Max Verstappen in practice, the New Zealander had already been handed a grid penalty. Now he'll start at the very back of the grid anyway.
