No Mercedes Pole! Norris Breaks Dominance in Hungary
The "Silver Arrows" miss pole for the first time this season. Norris, meanwhile, celebrates ahead of the Ferrari drivers. Alonso makes it into Q2 for the first time.
Lando Norris ends Mercedes' pole dominance!
The reigning British champion takes pole in his McLaren (1:17.207), just ahead of Lewis Hamilton (2nd./+0.012) and Charles Leclerc (3rd./+0.238).
For championship leader Kimi Antonelli, it's only P4. He is followed by Oscar Piastri (5th./McLaren), Max Verstappen (6th./Red Bull), George Russell (7th./Mercedes), Isack Hadjar (8th./Red Bull), Arvid Lindblad (9th./Racing Bulls) and Nico Hülkenberg (10th./Audi)
For Liam Lawson (11th.) in the second Racing Bulls car, it's just not enough for Q3. The Alpine duo of Pierre Gasly (12th.) and Franco Colapinto (13th.), Gabriel Bortoleto (14th./Audi), Esteban Ocon (15th./Haas) and Fernando Alonso (16th.) also miss out on Q2.
However, there's good news for the Spanish veteran for the first time this season.
Aston Martin Upgrade Puts Alonso in Q2
Because Alonso, in the revamped Aston Martin, makes it into Q2 for the first time this season.
For Oliver Bearman (17th./Haas), Carlos Sainz (18th.), Alexander Albon (19th./both Alpine), Lance Stroll (20th./Aston Martin) and the Cadillac duo of Valtteri Bottas (21st.) and Sergio Perez (22nd.), the working day ends prematurely.
