The risk of catching a cold these days is only present in one place.
The air conditioning in the Red Bull Ring media center is really flexing its muscles. For a moment, I caught myself getting goosebumps tracing along my forearm.
However, it could just as easily be the anticipation for the most interesting weekend of the season that's causing them.
In Spielberg, many factors combine to heat up Formula 1. And not just from above.
Some Like It Hot
Of course, the inhumane conditions are one of them. So let's get that out of the way.
While writing, the feeling is akin to that of a fish stick; in the stands, you'll empathize with the grilled chickens at the campsite.
The fact that the search for shade is utterly hopeless both in the stands and on the track is being combated for fans with free sunscreen and water stations.

Where the human factor suffers, the machine suffers too.
The Red Bull Ring always offers unusual characteristics. With the temperatures, a unique set of conditions emerges that makes sporting predictions difficult.
Even for the new regulations, the combination of the ideally suited stop-and-go layout and the altitude will be a true test.

As if that weren't enough, the balance of power is shifting: What was teased with Lewis Hamilton's first Ferrari victory in Barcelona could see its next chapter in Spielberg.
Almost all top teams are bringing larger update packages. Ferrari and Mercedes have been allowed to make improvements to their engines; Red Bull hopes for progress with weight.
While everyone is playing down expectations, that's a tradition: Rival teams are already paying their respects, and have rarely been wrong in doing so.
It Continues
For those whose hearts are still not warmed by such prospects, you can look forward to more friction generating heat off the track.
A diffuser used by Mercedes since Montreal caused complaints, especially from Ferrari. A clarification of its legality is expected for Spielberg – and is set to be implemented immediately.
