Austria's men's national team has started its preparation for the Deutschland Cup.
During the training camp in Salzburg, there is a roster change: Defenseman Bernd Wolf from EHC Kloten had to withdraw due to injury. Patrick Söllinger was subsequently called up, making him the fifth player from Black Wings Linz to join the squad. With this, Linz, along with the Graz99ers, now provides the largest contingent in the team.
Until Wednesday, the national team players will prepare for the tournament taking place in Düsseldorf from November 5th to 8th. The ÖEHV team will kick off the tournament on November 5th (7:45 PM CET / ORF Sport +) against host Germany.
After a game-free Friday, matches against Slovakia (Saturday, November 7th, 3:00 PM CET) and Latvia (Sunday, November 8th, 11:00 AM CET / ORF ON and from 11:55 AM on ORF Sport +) will follow.
"It's about getting everyone on the same page"
Roger Bader, Sports Director of the men's national teams and Head Coach of the A-Men, says: "It's a classic start. The first day is always off-ice because most players were still playing on Sunday. In the evening, we discuss how we want to approach this week tactically. The players come from different teams, different coaches, and different game systems. The first practice is about getting everyone on the same page. We have two practices before the first game to get the team ready."
Patrick Söllinger expressed his delight at being called up: "I will simply give my all and show my best side. It's always something special to represent your country. Ultimately, this is the international stage where you can prove yourself. That brings a lot of value, and I look forward to it every time."
