1,000 Games! Schiechl Breaks Incredible ICE Milestone

Michael Schiechl joins an elite club.

The 37-year-old forward of the Graz99ers will play his 1,000th game in the win2day ICE Hockey League during the home match against VSV (in the LIVE ticker). The Styrian made his league debut on September 19, 2008, in a 1-4 defeat for the 99ers in Innsbruck.

After his debut year in Austria's top league, Schiechl moved to EC Red Bull Salzburg, with whom he promptly became champion twice. In 2012, Schiechl moved to Vienna to join the Capitals, and in 2016, he returned to the Salzach.

Since 2020, the 46-cap Austrian international has been playing for the 99ers again and was an integral part on the way to Graz's first championship last year.

Schiechl, meanwhile, breaks the 1,000-game barrier as the fourth player in league history. Leading the ranking are Thomas Raffl and Thomas Koch with 1,023 games each, while John Hughes has 1,014 games to his name.
