Canadian Forward for the "Red Bulls"
It's the 24-year-old's first stop in Europe. He's looking forward to a new culture and wants to develop further.
EC Red Bull Salzburg announces the signing of forward Nick Poisson.
The 24-year-old Canadian most recently played for the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL and the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL; he is moving to Europe for the first time.
Last season, the 1.80-meter tall, 86-kilogram forward completed his first professional season. For the Abbotsford Canucks, Poisson recorded five goals and six assists in 43 AHL games. In nine further appearances for the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL, he scored two goals and set up one.
He will wear the number 24 in Salzburg.
Captain at College
Born in Vancouver, Poisson played two seasons for the Prince George Spruce Kings in the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League). In 107 regular season games, the left-handed shot scored 35 goals and assisted on 42 others. In 2019, he won the BCHL Championship and the Doyle Cup with the Spruce Kings. Poisson also represented Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge.
Subsequently, the forward played five years, from 2020 to 2025, for Providence College in the NCAA. In 170 games, he recorded 109 points, including 42 goals and 67 assists. This makes Poisson second in all-time games played in the hockey program's history.
In his final two college seasons, he first served as assistant captain and then as captain of Providence College. During his time at college, the Canadian also participated in development camps for the Vegas Golden Knights, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Florida Panthers.

"After discussions with the coaches and gaining insights into the opportunities in Salzburg, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to join one of Europe's leading clubs. I'm really looking forward to my first season in Europe, getting to know a new culture, and developing both on and off the ice," Poisson is quoted as saying.
He further states: "I want to help the team win games every night in any way possible. Our goal is to contend for the championship in the league and also make an impact in the Champions Hockey League. I am a two-way forward with a lot of energy who can make his teammates better. Offensively, I like to play with speed on the rush and look to shoot whenever the opportunity arises."
