Four host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA are waiting for funds that FIFA had promised them in advance, according to a report by "The Athletic".
These are so-called "Legacy" funds, which were intended for infrastructure development and to support social projects. Each location is awaiting one million dollars.
The four representatives claim that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had given them this promise verbally during the 2025 Club World Cup in the USA. However, payment has not yet been made.
Another Blow for Infantino
Infantino could come under further pressure due to the current reports. His idea to sell World Cup stakes and rights worth billions has already met strong resistance.
Also, due to corruption allegations from the head of the Jordanian football association, a FIFA crisis meeting will take place on Wednesday.
