The former Chelsea FC goalkeeper was already sidelined against Iraq. Now, his World Cup exit has been officially confirmed – meaning he will miss the important clash against Belgium.

On Wednesday evening, Senegal faces Belgium in the World Cup Round of 32, vying for a spot in the Round of 16 (from 10 PM in the LIVE ticker>>>).

However, this year's Africa Cup of Nations finalist must cope with a major setback. As confirmed by Senegal's national coach Pape Thiaw at the pre-match press conference, starting goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will also miss this match due to injury.

Injured against Norway

The FIFA World Goalkeeper of the Year 2021 was already absent from the 5-0 win against Iraq, after sustaining a knee injury during Senegal's 2-3 defeat to Norway in the group stage.

The keeper is said to have already departed to undergo further examinations at his club Al-Ahli.
