James Rodríguez writes the next chapter of his impressive national team career.
In the Round of 16 match of the FIFA World Cup against Ghana (to the LIVE ticker >>>), the 34-year-old is in the starting eleven, making his 130th international appearance for Colombia. This makes the midfielder the sole record cap holder for his country.
The previous best mark was 129 appearances and was held by goalkeeper David Ospina. The 37-year-old is once again on the substitute bench – just as he was in the three group stage matches.
Third World Cup for James
For James, it is already his twelfth appearance at a World Cup, which is also a Colombian record. The captain of the South Americans participated in the 2014 and 2018 finals and now leads his team onto the field in his third World Cup.
The former Real Madrid star experienced his greatest moment on the international stage in 2014 in Brazil. With six goals, James secured the Golden Boot and led Colombia to the quarterfinals for the first time.
Now, the playmaker is expected to lead the "Cafeteros" to their fourth Round of 16 appearance in World Cup history against Ghana – ideally crowning his record-breaking evening with another success.
