As several media outlets report, a member of the American team has confirmed a one-match suspension, meaning Balogun will only have to sit out the round of 16 match against Belgium (Tuesday 2:00 AM in the LIVE ticker >>>).

Balogun: "It was absolutely unintentional"

The player in question has already scored three goals at his home World Cup, more than any other player on the team.

The player himself also commented: "First and foremost, I want to emphasize that it was absolutely unintentional," he is quoted by "The Athletic."

He added: "The referee's decision was his to make. I don't think it's right. A yellow card would have been appropriate in my opinion, as there was no intention involved."

Coach Pochettino was also irritated by the referee's decision: "For me, that is never a red card. It was never his intention to kick the player. It was a completely normal action in football," he explained.
