After World Cup Exit: Another National Coach Resigns
After being eliminated in the round of 16, the Belgian initially left his future open. Now he has made a decision.
South Africa made history at the 2026 World Cup, reaching the knockout stage of a World Cup for the very first time.
Although their journey ended against Canada in the round of 16, the team could still look back on a historically successful tournament.
National coach Hugo Broos played a significant role in this – and has now resigned from his position. A representative of the South African Football Association confirmed this to the news agency "AFP". Shortly after the World Cup exit, Broos had still left his future open.
However, he does not want to completely say goodbye to South African football. A role in a different capacity within the association is considered possible.
"I am always available if people need advice," said the 74-year-old.
Former National Coach Tipped as Successor
Former national coach Pitso Mosimane is being considered as a possible successor. He had already taken over South Africa as an assistant coach after the 2010 World Cup in their home country.
Most recently, the 61-year-old was active in Iran, where he managed the top-flight club Esteghlal FC.
