The scandal surrounding the "pardon" of US striker Folarin Balogun enters its next phase.

After the attacker's red card suspension was provisionally lifted following a call from US President Donald Trump to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the world governing body is facing a wave of indignation.

In addition to round of 16 opponent Belgium, England head coach Thomas Tuchel has now also expressed harsh criticism of the procedure dncbccbbc.

On Monday afternoon, Donald Trump followed up with a bizarre statement.

During a press conference in the Oval Office, the eccentric US President (xx) commented on his intervention in the matter.

Trump didn't know what a red card means

"I asked for a review because I didn't think it was a foul," Trump said at a press conference in the Oval Office. "I merely demanded a review because I didn't consider it a foul, and I know about such things."

Trump further states: "I don't think it was a foul. It was two great athletes who crashed into each other. It wasn't like he punched someone in the face."

Trump "didn't know what the hell a red card meant. When he 'found out what it meant, I said, 'You've got to be kidding me'".

As if that weren't enough, Trump accuses Brazilian referee Raphael Claus of having "a suspicious past."

The USA will face Belgium on Tuesday (from 02:00 AM in the LIVE ticker >>>). Whether Balogun will actually be used then remains to be seen.
