World Cup Controversy: What is a red card still worth?
The ban against Folarin Balogun is suspended on probation. The ADMIRAL Analysis Conference assesses the controversial FIFA decision.
Red card, but no ban?
FIFA causes the next major stir at the World Cup.
Following his red card in the Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, US striker Folarin Balogun should actually have missed the quarter-final against Belgium (from 2 AM in the live ticker). Instead, FIFA suspended the automatic ban on probation.
How is that possible? What role does Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code play? And what consequences could this decision have for the credibility of football?
Belgium reacts with bewilderment. Head coach Rudi Garcia says: "We are defending not only our national team, but football itself, its ethics, and its integrity."
The ADMIRAL Analysis Conference discusses arguably the most controversial World Cup talking point of the tournament.
