"A Dream" - Cape Verde Anticipates Messi After Sensation
While the African island nation now faces a duel with the reigning world champion, Uruguay experiences one of the biggest embarrassments in recent history.
Cape Verde's 0-0 draw against Saudi Arabia (To the match report>>>) creates the biggest sensation of this World Cup so far, and arguably one of the greatest in World Cup history.
Because after their third consecutive draw, the World Cup newcomer sensationally advances to the Round of 32 as second in Group H. In doing so, the West African island nation leaves not only the Saudis but also two-time world champion Uruguay behind.
As a reward, a duel against reigning world champion Argentina, featuring superstar Lionel Messi, now awaits in the knockout phase.
"I'll tell my children"
Goalkeeper Vozinha, who became an internet sensation overnight due to his performance in the opening match against Spain, is particularly looking forward to the duel with Argentina's number 10.
"He is the greatest footballer of all time. Every team panics when they have to play against him. Being on the pitch with Messi is a dream, and one day I will proudly tell my children that I played against him," says the 40-year-old goalkeeper after advancing.
"I know it's almost impossible to stop him, but I will do everything I can to prevent him from scoring against me."
Uruguay's Embarrassment
While Cape Verde is in a state of euphoria, Uruguay is experiencing one of the bitterest chapters in its recent football history.
Due to the South Americans' 0-1 defeat against European champions Spain (to the match report>>>), the two-time world champion must exit the tournament winless. For the second consecutive time, Uruguay is eliminated in the World Cup group stage.
During the tournament, coach Marcelo Bielsa was the main focus of criticism. The legendary coach repeatedly made himself vulnerable with his decisions and leadership style.

After the match, the Argentinian also took responsibility: "I couldn't unleash the potential. I couldn't unleash Uruguay's strength."
During the match against Spain, Bielsa primarily caused bewilderment with his substitutions. He took goalkeeper legend Fernando Muslera off the field at halftime, and Real star Federico Valverde was also substituted in the 56th minute.
