Home Defeat Against Juventus: Austria Still Without a Win in CL
The "Violettes" rally against defeat in the final phase. However, a Juve goal in stoppage time brings the final decision.
Wiener Austria suffered a 1-4 home defeat against Juventus on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Women's Champions League, thus still waiting for a win.
Shortly before halftime, Pavan scored to give the Italian visitors a 1-0 lead (39'). Redondo added another from the penalty spot in the second half (63').
The "Violettes" then pulled one back to 1-2 (Cordes/78') and tried to fight back against the defeat. But Sylla (81') and Bartel (90'+1) sealed the deal.
Juventus with Halftime Lead
Around 4,600 fans were in the stadium on Thursday afternoon. This marks a new attendance record for a women's game at Verteilerkreis for Austria. For Juventus, Austrian Larissa Rusek started in goal.
Compared to the CL home game against Inter (1-1), coach Stefan Kenesei's team struggled a bit more with the ball. Additionally, the Viennese allowed spaces that the Italians exploited.
Before the break, Pavan had a lot of space on the left side, cut inside, and curled the ball into the net for the 1-0 (39'). In stoppage time, a long-range shot from Juve's Pinto landed just wide of the Austria goal.
Austria Fights Against Defeat
Austria played more courageously in the second half but conceded the 0-2 after about an hour. Redondo coolly converted the penalty, which was awarded after a VAR check (63'). Prior to that, Austria goalkeeper Pal had fouled Juve's Carbonell.
The Kenesei eleven then fought against the loss, rallying again. Cordes' goal to make it 1-2 (78') only briefly gave the home fans hope, as Sylla increased the lead to 3-1 for Juventus after a Pal error (81'). Substitute Bartel put the game beyond doubt in stoppage time (90'+1).
Juventus celebrates their second consecutive CL win. Austria stands at one point after one draw and two defeats.
