For the FK Austria Wien women's team, the dream of a debut participation in the UEFA Women's Champions League is not yet over.

The reigning double winners clearly prevailed 5-0 against Farul Constanta from Romania in the qualifiers on Saturday, securing their spot in the playoff round.

The opponent in the final qualifying round will be determined next Tuesday (August 11, 13:00). This round will be played over two legs and is the last hurdle in the fight for a spot in the premier competition.

Early Lead for Austria

The second qualifying round is played in the format of a mini-tournament. The Austria women's team is playing in Slovenia and overcame the first hurdle, Hajduk Split, with a 3-2 victory.

As against Hajduk on Wednesday, the Viennese started the final like a shot out of a cannon.

Verena Hanshaw scored from 18 meters into the top corner following a corner kick (2'). Assist provider Modesta Uka immediately added the 2-0 (4') with a low shot into the far corner after a long pass from Yvonne Weilharter.

Unlike the match against the Croats, Coach Stefan Kenesei's team did not falter this time.

Austria Extends Lead in Second Half

In the second half, Louise Schöffel was fouled in the penalty area, and Uka (61') confidently converted the penalty kick. Elisa Pfattner (66') scored with a precise shot into the far corner shortly after.

The final goal was reserved for Weilharter (75'). Her shot was significantly deflected, and goalkeeper Lilian Awuor also made a mistake.

The third round will be played on August 26 and September 2. The Viennese team is on the Champions Path.
