Double-winning captain Wenninger stays on board with Austria
Last season, the former national player led the Violets to a double. She will continue to play in violet.
Carina Wenninger remains a Violet!
As the reigning double winners announced on Wednesday, the 35-year-old is extending her contract and will thus remain with the Viennese side as captain.
For the 2025/26 season, the former national player took over the role from Verena Volkmer, who ended her career. The rest is history: Wenninger led the Violets to the double, securing the first two titles in the club's history.
"We have big goals"
"I feel physically very good and still have a great desire for football. We have a strong team and big goals. I look forward to continuing on this successful path together and actively shaping the development of FK Austria Wien Women both on and off the pitch. Together with our fans, we want to celebrate further successes and experience unforgettable moments," the leading player is quoted as saying.
On Saturday, the Violets will meet their arguably biggest competitor in the title race, SKN St. Pölten, right at the start of the season.
