Just this Saturday, SK Bischofshofen had reason to celebrate – with a penalty shootout victory against Union Dietach, the club advanced to the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup (to the match report>>>).

However, only a few days later, the next setback followed. The dream of remaining in the Regionalliga Nord now seems to be definitively shattered.

On Monday, the Salzburg Football Association (SFV) also rejected another application from the club for a special permit.

Shortly before the first competitive match of the season, the club, led by ex-judoka Patrick Reiter, had submitted an alternative home venue for the upcoming season. This is because, following the termination of its usage agreement, the club is no longer allowed to play at the facility in Bischofshofen (More info>>>).

Bischofshofen Wanted to Play in Upper Austria

Unlike the originally rejected alternative sports ground in Leoben, the new home ground in Pöndorf, Upper Austria, would have been located within the Regionalliga Nord's territory.

BSK hoped that this would allow them to still meet the requirements for participation in the championship.

On Monday, the SFV reviewed the application and informed the club of its decision late in the afternoon: Even the new venue does not change the already decided exclusion from the Regionalliga Nord for the 2026/27 season. The requested special permit was rejected.

Submission Not Timely

The association stated that the submission of the Pöndorf sports facility was not made on time.

The belated registration of a venue does not entitle the club to a delayed admission into the current championship season.

Thus, just days before the start of the season, SK Bischofshofen remains without a playing license for any league competition. The club still hopes for an injunction to be able to play at the sports ground in Bischofshofen after all.

Until then, BSK's only option is the ÖFB Cup.
