Thrilling Penalty Shootout! Bischofshofen Advances to Second Cup Round
The Salzburg team currently has no playing license for league operations. However, a second competitive match this season is now confirmed.
SK Bischofshofen surprisingly advances to the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup.
Although BSK does not yet have a license for the Regionalliga West, they are permitted to compete in the ÖFB Cup. Away at North League team Union Dietach in Upper Austria, Bischofshofen wins 6:5 in a penalty shootout (3:3 after 120 minutes).
With a completely newly assembled team, the Salzburgers held the score at 0:0 until halftime, and just under an hour in, defender Paul Jouini even gave Bischofshofen the lead (59').
Already on the brink of elimination
Mario Reiter equalized for Dietach late in the game (82'), and in the 85th minute, the hosts seemed to be definitively heading for victory. Denis Berisha converted a penalty to make it 2:1 for Dietach.
However, Bischofshofen saved themselves, making it 2:2 thanks to a goal from Maysson Meite, forcing extra time.
Leon Grafinger put the Upper Austrians back in the lead during extra time (104'), but the subsequent equalizer by Daniel Eyo Ayitu (113') forced a penalty shootout.
From the spot, several players faltered. Five players from Dietach missed, while four from Bischofshofen missed. However, French goalkeeper Ylies Michel Lakdar Zitouni kept his nerve and converted his penalty for the decisive 6:5.
