Could there be another Ronaldo comeback in the Portuguese national team?

Head coach Jorge Jesus is, in any case, open to a return.

At the press conference after the 2-1 victory against Norway, Jesus said: "For me, Cris, provided he plays for al-Nassr, is a candidate for the squad in the next call-up. If he wants to return, he will return."

However, the decision probably rests more with the superstar himself, as the Portuguese coach also knows: "I don't know what will happen. Cris is the one who will decide."

Portugal speaks of misunderstanding

"Now that these four games are over, we will all have the time and peace to sit down and resolve a misunderstanding," explained Football Association President Pedro Proenca.

Ronaldo had left the national team last week after not being substituted on against Norway and not being scheduled to start against Denmark.

For Portugal, the 41-year-old has scored 146 goals in 234 international matches, making him the most successful goal scorer at national team level of all time.

His replacement, Goncalo Ramos, is meanwhile impressing in Ronaldo's absence. In this October training camp, he scored in all three matches in which he started.

Only this summer, the former PSG striker moved to AC Milan in Serie A for 74 million euros.

The Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has, for now, taken over the captain's legacy.

Portugal has already qualified prematurely for the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals after four matches and four wins.
