"To make my debut two weeks ago was already the first dream, now to score a goal is even better," Christoph Lang beams.

The Styrian utilized the ÖFB training camp to promote himself.

He was substituted in during the home game against Israel and contributed an assist, then substituted in during the 1-1 draw in Kosovo and scored the equalizer. In the end, he has two scorer points after exactly 45 minutes of playing time.

His assessment is accordingly positive: "I tried to show myself from my best side. I managed that quite well in the first game, and again today. I have a reasonably good feeling."

Rangnick: "We will enjoy him for years to come"

National coach Ralf Rangnick sees it no differently. He says about the LASK professional: "This is a player whom, if he continues to develop this way, we will enjoy for years to come."

The fact that his first international goal came in precisely this manner makes the 24-year-old smile: "I wouldn't have thought it would be with my head. But no matter how, the main thing is it went in. I'm super happy."

Strong Heading Technique

After a long throw-in from Kevin Danso and a header flick-on from Sasa Kalajdzic, Lang was perfectly positioned centrally in front of the goal.

The offensive player reports: "I just nudged it a bit to let it slip through. The ball then flew pretty much straight to my head and I put all my power into it."

Rangnick offered extra praise for the goal: "You have to be able to place a header with that much power behind it from that distance. That was not an easy goal."

Rangnick has known him for a while

The German recalls: "I'm very happy for Christoph. He caught my eye four years ago as a participant in our first prospective player training camp. Back then, however, he wasn't a truly seasoned player yet. In the meantime, he has matured considerably."

It wasn't their last point of contact. Lang was already part of the ÖFB national team squad for the first time in spring 2024, participating in the training camp in Marbella. However, he had to wait two and a half years for his debut – without any further call-ups in between.

Lang: "This year I am reaping the fruits of this labor"

"I've worked hard for the last two or three years. This year I'm reaping the fruits of this labor," Lang grins, also in view of the double with LASK, including Champions League.

However, all this should not be the end of his career climb. "At the moment, it feels very good, but I'm still a long way from where I want to be. I want to go very far up," he says confidently.
