Portugal remains flawless in Nations League without Ronaldo
The Selecao is thus definitively in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals. The Danes narrowly win in Wales.
Portugal, without Cristiano Ronaldo, defeats Norway 2-1 on Matchday four of the UEFA Nations League.
The first highlight of the match is delivered by Kristoffer Ajer for Norway. The centre-back brings the ball down with his chest after a free-kick, lets it bounce once, and fires it into the net from the right edge of the penalty area (36').
However, Portugal's reaction is prompt. Two minutes later, Joao Cancelo hammers the ball into the goal with a volley from a long throw-in to equalize (38').
Victory with ten men
The second half is less spectacular. The next goal doesn't come until the 79th minute. After a beautiful combination, Joao Felix sets up his attacking colleague Goncalo Ramos, who routinely taps the ball over the line to make it 2-1 (79').
In the 86th minute, there's more excitement. Francisco Conceicao receives a yellow card for a foul and immediately gets a second for protesting. He is sent off with a red card. Nevertheless, the match ends 2-1.
This means Portugal qualifies early for the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals. They are first in Group 4 with twelve points, while Norway is last with three points.
Denmark benefits from goalkeeper error
In the parallel match, Denmark wins 1-0 in Wales. However, the deserved winning goal comes only from a penalty.
Wales attempts to play out from their own penalty area. Goalkeeper Ward plays an inaccurate pass, tries to clear it at the last moment, but brings down opponent Isaksen. Former Sturm Graz player Rasmus Hojlund converts confidently (75').
As a result, Denmark has six points, while Wales only has three.
