Confirmed: Sami Khedira returns to Real Madrid
The German world champion was once a player for the "Royals", now he strengthens Jose Mourinho's coaching staff.
It had already been hinted at, and as of Friday, it's official: Sami Khedira joins Jose Mourinho's coaching staff at Real Madrid and will serve as an assistant coach.
For Khedira, it marks a comeback to professional football. After ending his playing career in 2021, he most recently worked as a TV expert for DAZN. He is now giving up that role.
Once a Player under Mourinho
As a player, Khedira not only became a world champion with Germany in 2014 but also spent five successful years at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2015.
Jose Mourinho brought the former midfielder from Stuttgart in 2010. Together, they won the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the Spanish championship in 2012. During his time as a TV expert, Khedira referred to Mourinho as a "father figure".
After Mourinho's departure, Khedira also won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2014.
