Because of Mbappe: China no longer wants to show LaLiga matches
The dispute over statements by the French superstar reaches a new level. Real Madrid has already officially apologized.
Kylian Mbappe's latest interview statements are developing into an increasingly major scandal.
The 27-year-old has long since apologized and described his remark as "ill-considered." However, the Chinese state broadcaster "CCTV" remains unimpressed and has announced that it will temporarily stop showing matches from the Spanish league.
Previously, several Chinese sponsors had already ended their cooperation with the Real star (More info>>>).
The trigger was an interview the attacker gave with the French program "The Bridge." Mbappe was asked to reveal which internet meme about him he found funniest and named a montage where his face was Photoshopped onto that of a "Chinese dictator."
Such images refer back to a photo of revolutionary leader Mao Zedong. A video of the interview spread online.
Real Madrid Apologizes
On Wednesday, the club also reacted. Real Madrid wished to "apologize to the Chinese people for the displeasure that may have arisen from the recent statements by our player Kylian Mbappé," the club announced.
At the same time, "Los Blancos" emphasized their respect for the country: "Our club holds deep respect for China, its history, its culture, and its people – as well as for the millions of Chinese fans who show affection and admiration for Real Madrid."
Whether this will change the state broadcaster's mind remains open. The China Media Group did not simply accept Mbappe's apology. An unnamed representative of the state broadcaster "CCTV" clarified, according to "Marca", "We will listen to his words, but observe his actions much more closely."
