For 40 Million! Atlético strengthens with ex-Admira player
The Rojiblancos sign Danish international Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Lisbon.
Atlético Madrid is strengthening its defensive midfield with Dane Morten Hjulmand, who joins from Sporting Lisbon.
As announced by both clubs, the 27-year-old moves to the Madrid side and signs a contract until 2031.
The transfer fee is 40 million euros, but could rise to 45 million through bonus payments.
Most recently captain in Lisbon
The Danish international has played for the Portuguese side since 2023, with whom he won the league title twice and even captained them in the past two seasons.
In 141 appearances for Sporting, the defensive midfielder scored ten goals and provided twelve assists.
Two and a half seasons at Admira
Hjulmand thus becomes the second most expensive Dane in history, behind Rasmus Hojlund.
After his youth training at FC Copenhagen, Hjulmand's first foreign station was Admira, where he played 72 games, scored one goal and assisted five from 2018 to January 2021.
He then moved on to Italy, where he joined Lecce, before making his way to Sporting Lisbon. The new Atlético player is a regular in the Danish national team.
