After just nine games: Ex-Salzburg coach fired in Switzerland
The 64-year-old saved the club from relegation last season, but now he's lost his job.
Grasshoppers Zurich and Peter Zeidler are parting ways after just nine rounds.
The club announced this on Monday, after losing 1-5 to FC Luzern over the weekend. For Grasshoppers, it was already their fifth defeat in the ninth league game. With eight points, they currently sit in 10th place in the Swiss Super League.
"Sporting direction" to be further developed
"After a thorough analysis of the current sporting situation, the club has decided to make a change in the head coach position and to further develop the sporting direction," reads a statement.
The club thanked Zeidler "for his great commitment in recent months, especially for securing survival, which was of central importance to the club."
Zeidler follows two Austrians
Zeidler ultimately led the Zurich club to survival via the relegation play-offs last season. Grasshoppers had started in these play-offs under Gerald Scheiblehner as coach.
The current GAK coach was released in March, and Gernot Messner, a former GAK trainer, took over for him. His time ended after only six games, before Zeidler took charge.
In Austria, Zeidler is known for his time at Red Bull Salzburg, which he managed in the autumn of 2015.
