Italian Media: Maldini Drug Case Clarified

The case caused a stir far beyond Italy last week: Daniel Maldini, Italian team forward and son of Milan icon Paolo, reportedly tested positive for drug use following a car accident.

Maldini's driver's license was revoked as he was also intoxicated. Following the positive rapid test, a blood sample was ordered at the hospital.

Extensive investigations carried out

According to Italian media, including Gazzetta dello Sport, "extensive investigations" were carried out last week. These investigations revealed that Maldini's levels were "below the threshold," meaning that, according to the public prosecutor's office, this is "not compatible" with the accusation of driving under the influence of drugs.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident.

The incident seems to have had no impact on Maldini's performance: He scored Cagliari's winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Udinese on Saturday, making it his third consecutive game with a goal. He was also called up to the national team by Roberto Mancini for the upcoming Nations League matches.
