Marc-André ter Stegen is moving to Ajax Amsterdam on loan. The 34-year-old German was deemed surplus to requirements by coach Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona last summer.

In the second half of the season, ter Stegen was on loan to FC Girona. However, he only made two appearances there. Now, the veteran is expected to provide stability for Ajax.

After a disappointing last season, in which they finished 5th in the Eredivisie, they aim to challenge higher up the table this year.

Injuries as the Main Problem

The main reason for Hansi Flick's decision to drop ter Stegen was his injuries. The German started the 2024/25 season as captain but injured his patellar tendon and only made eight starts.

Last season, Germany's former national goalkeeper missed the entire first half of the season. At his loan club Girona, ter Stegen got injured after two matchdays and missed the entire second half of the season.

He aims to rediscover his old form at the Dutch record champions.
