Evangelos Marinakis is the owner of Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos Piraeus, and the entrepreneur is not exactly known for his patience with coaches.

Last season, he went through four coaches at Nottingham Forest, and for the new season, he signed Upper Austrian Oliver Glasner.

Great Successes

At his second club, Olympiacos Piraeus, he is now causing a surprising separation. Successful coach Jose Luis Mendilibar (65) must leave the club.

The Spaniard coached the club to the UEFA Conference League title in 2024, and in 2025, they secured the treble with the league title, cup, and supercup.

After finishing as runners-up last season, the club was eliminated in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers against NEC Nijmegen.

Sacking After Cup Win

However, domestically, they were recently back on track, with four wins and one draw from five matches. On Tuesday, they also won 3-2 in the cup against league rival NFC Volos. Now came the news of the successful coach's dismissal.

Failing to qualify for the Champions League likely sealed the fate of the 2023 EL winner (with Sevilla). However, the timing, after a decent start domestically, comes as a surprise. Within the club, Mendilibar is still considered a legend after the UEFA Conference League triumph.
