Memphis Depay will no longer play in Brazil.

As his club Corinthians announced, the club cannot afford to extend the expired contract of the Dutch attacker.

"This decision was made exclusively and solely considering the financial health of our institution," Corinthians announced on Wednesday night. Corinthians allegedly still owes Depay several million euros in salary.

Future unclear

The 32-year-old moved to Brazil on a free transfer in the summer of 2024, where he contributed 20 goals and 15 assists in 79 competitive matches for the São Paulo-based club.

With the club, he won both the Campeonato Paulista and the Copa do Brasil in 2025. Another title followed in 2026 with the Supercopa Rei.

What's next for Depay is unclear. The 112-cap Netherlands international could now join a new club on a free transfer, which, however, would have to shoulder the veteran's high salary.

Only last January, there were rumors of a move to Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates.
