Goal Celebration Goes Wrong: Brazilian Falls into Player Tunnel
The center-back had to be substituted after his celebration. However, a long injury layoff is not expected.
That hurts just to watch!
29-year-old defender Jacy Maranhão headed Coritiba to what he thought was a 2-0 lead against Chapecoense in the Brazilian first division in the 41st minute.
During the subsequent celebration, he ran to the fans, jumped over the advertising hoardings, and on the other side, fell into a tunnel leading to the away team's dressing room.
Ankle Injury After Fall
Although Jacy was able to climb out on his own, he sustained an ankle injury in the fall.
Particularly bitter: The VAR subsequently disallowed his goal. Shortly after halftime, the defender had to be substituted due to the injury. Nevertheless, Coritiba won the match 2-1.
"Center-Backs Rarely Score Goals"
"I twisted my foot there. It hurts a bit, but I'm fine," Maranhão explained after the game to "pls.uai". "Center-backs rarely score goals. When you finally do score, the emotions just take over."
A similar incident occurred back in 2014. Cameroonian striker Joel jumped over the barrier after a goal and also fell into the player tunnel.
