Lazio surges to top spot with win in goal-laden thriller
The Biancocelesti were already 3-1 up after just 16 minutes. Tension only briefly flared up after the hosts were shown a red card.
Lazio Rome moved to the top of Serie A with a 6-2 victory over Sassuolo Calcio. It was Gennaro Gattuso's team's eighth win in their ninth league game.
The visitors got off to a flying start: Taylor initiated the move himself and, after a failed clearance attempt, got to the ball again, which he calmly slotted home to give them the lead (2'). But Sassuolo had a quick answer, with Doig laying the ball back to Thorstvedt, whose deflected shot beat Mandas (7').
The game continued in the same vein: Isaksen restored Lazio's lead with a direct shot (13'), and Floriani bundled a Taylor cross over the line (16') - with VAR having no objections. In the 31st minute, momentum definitively shifted to the visitors' side: Thorstvedt was sent off with a straight red card after a strong tackle against Zaccagni (31').
Despite being a man down, the hosts managed to pull one back through Esposito, who chested the ball down and curled it into the far corner (43'), but Zaccagni restored the previous lead with a header just before the half-time whistle (45'+1).
Noslin scores twice after the break
In the second half, the visitors barely let anything happen. Noslin's brace after the break (55', 65') secured the 6-2 final score. The only drawback for the visitors was Frattesi's missed penalty (61').
Lazio Rome currently leads the Serie A table with 25 points. Inter Milan can draw level on points with a win against promoted side Venezia on Wednesday (from 6:30 PM).
