After Strauss injury: Regensburg strengthens with former Austria player
The 29-year-old last played in Switzerland, but has been without a club since summer.
Third-division side Jahn Regensburg has strengthened its squad with center-back Lukas Mühl until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old thus returns to his home country Germany. In his youth, Mühl played for 1. FC Nürnberg, for whose senior team he made 133 competitive appearances (three goals, one assist). Subsequently, he moved to Wiener Austria in 2021 (63 games, one goal), before transferring to Spezia Calcio in Italy in the summer of 2023.
Most recently, he was under contract with FC Winterthur in Switzerland, but this expired in the summer. Since then, Mühl has been without a club.
Mühl's signing is also a reaction to the absence of Austrian legionnaire Felix Strauss, who will be sidelined for a long time with a knee injury (more here >>>).

Sporting director Alexander Schmalhofer says: "With Lukas, we gain an experienced defensive specialist. Especially due to the long-term absence of Felix Strauss, it was important for us to strengthen the central defense once again. He will help us both athletically and with his character, and we look forward to welcoming him to Regensburg."
Mühl himself is quoted as saying: "I am very happy that it worked out so quickly and that I can now play here in Regensburg. I come from the region and have been following Jahn for a long time. Looking at the stadium and the training ground, the club has excellent conditions. I want to get to know the team as quickly as possible, train well, and contribute here. I am very keen to help out and deliver good performances here."
